Indian e-Visa Photo Requirements: Digital Upload Guide 2026

Applying for an Indian e-Visa requires two digital uploads: a copy of your passport and a recent digital photo. The Indian Bureau of Immigration is very strict about the technical specifications of the photo upload.

1. The Square Format

Unlike the standard Indian passport photo, the e-Visa photo must be square. The minimum dimensions are 350 x 350 pixels, but 600 x 600 pixels is recommended for clarity. The aspect ratio must be 1:1.

2. Critical File Size Rules

This is where most applicants fail. The digital photo file size must be between 10 KB and 1 MB. If your file is 9 KB or 1.1 MB, the portal will reject it. The format must be JPEG.

3. Visual Requirements

The background must be plain white or off-white. The face should occupy the center of the frame and show the full head from top of hair to bottom of chin. Shadows on the face or background are not acceptable.
